never having had one myself i was looking in to storage only recently myself. on an computer i had a number old ide drives and was testing to see if it would be worth running games through a usb.2 flash drive to speed things up.

the big factor that everyone looks for is a thing called 'seek time'. is basically how quickly a drive can read / writ date and retrieve.

old ide and usb are about the same. firewire beats usb. 16mb or 32mb cashe sized hdds beat them both with raptor and scsi coming in the fastest.

i can only see solid state getting better and better. like revolution in battery spurred on by mobile phones i reckon ssd's will come in to their element very quickly. i only wish i had the money!

personally, the only people i know that have gone down the ssd route are folks with money who want that elusive silence.
